And there is another great (tm) idea:

JOSM very helpfully displays the bounding box that what used to
download its data. It would be nice if one could reuse that bounding
box to download the same area again to get changes of other people and
to check for conflicts.

Furthermore I think it would be helpful if JOSM would prevent
modification or deleting of objects (mostly nodes) that are completely
outside of all download bounding boxes. It is too easy to delete a way
and all its orphaned nodes without paying attention to that bounding
box. One then gets into trouble if one of those nodes is used in
another way that wasn't downloaded.
