Please don't feel annoyed. The main problem here was, that you (and 
other?) JOSM developers are working on unix-like systems, while the 
problem showed up only with the windows theme.

... and with the Windows theme, the behaviour was really a PITA. Fixing 
a problem lot's of people often complain about that you as a developer 
just don't see is a pain, I know.

Yes, it's working much better now (with the Windows look and feel) and 
the CDE/motif seems to be ok as well. Now, the autocompletion works as I 
would expect it to ;-)

It seems we'll finally found a solution, thanks to Karl ...
