[josm-dev] "Message of the day" texts

Hi!

As this was recently discussed (I think on talk-de).

The JOSM welcome screen had some problems:

a) Messages had no date or SVN Version attached

b) too many messages on the screen, so you must scroll down to see
"Getting Started" and such (which is bad especially for newbies)

I've started to fix a) in english and german language (as a start I've
simply used logfile date format YYYY.MM.DD and SVN version - maybe we
need to use local date formats at least for the translations?).

When expecting a typical screen size of todays notebooks (1200*800),
maybe around 5 messages will fit on the screen without using too much
screen real estate (on netbooks you will have even less space, but on
netbooks you will probably expect to scroll up/down anyway).

I've added a "More news ..." link to the welcome page now that links to
a new wiki page collecting the old messages:
http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/MessageOfTheDayOld

But how to deal with the old message pages? As I can't delete the pages
(tried to login to the JOSM trac with my SVN password but didn't
worked), I just emptied out the page content for SVN<1000 for now. These
empty but existing pages will probably slow down things in the long run,
so deleting the old pages completely will probably be a better choice ...

Regards, ULFL
