Thank you for your work. The problem has already been reported by 
someone so it is great to have a solution.

We are however concerned about what happens if someone uses an older 
version of gpsd which does not support the new protocol. Do you think it 
is possible to make the plugin fall back to the old protocol if it find 
that the new one does not work?
