The livegps plugin does not talk to the GPS directly but uses position 
data that comes from the gpsd system. You should think about connecting 
to the gpsd directly so as not to have unnecessary dependencies.

There is a "gpsfake" tool for gpsd which allows you to replay a 
recorded, or synthesized, GPS track to gpsd listeners.
