It always bothered me that JOSM displayed always a "50"-sign on nodes
that were tagged with maxspeed=<whatever> (I use this in conjunction
with traffic_sign=maxspeed to keep track of actual maxspeed-sign
positions).

I made a style extension for this (
http://josm.openstreetmap.de/josmfile?page=Styles/MaxspeedIcons&zip=1
) but it would be nicer to have this directly integrated into the main
style IMHO, to avoid confusion for mappers who aren't aware of this
mappaint style.

There is a similar problem for maxheight and maxweight (always the
same number on the sign). I didn't create icons for this yet because
they a) are used far less, b) not sure which variations make sense.
Maybe this could also be dealt with in an automatic way (that the
screen rendering creates the number in or atop the icon)? On the other
hand it will probably be visually much closer to the actual sign if we
created individual icons with the official fonts.

cheers,
Martin
