Hi Ben - althio
Good to hear from you again.
I think we're better promoting the use of transifex for the translations
and any amendments to them.
With transifex there is a review system and we can keep all of the
modules aligned across the different languages. Before adopting
transifex we were in the position of not knowing exactly what each
language version of a module contained. An amendment in an English
version because software had been updated may or may not have made it
across into the other languages. With Transifex we make an amendment to
a module in the master language for that module (at the moment that is
English, but there could be modules where the master language is
something else - for instance the intermediate & advanced sections in
French could be the masters when they are ready for translation), and we
can easily see if that update has been translated in the other language
versions.
This spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NlJHTYAYpyyF5o9D8UMAsSzFG7lHY2cIi2mzncx530w/edit?usp=sharing
has the cells coloured dark blue if the module is present on LearnOSM as
a result of translation on transifex. This is a vast improvement over
the situation before we started using transifex.
My language skills aren't good enough to know if the proposal in the
pull request is better than that originally in place, but if we accept
it as better, when we next bring a translation of that module across
from transifex, it will overwrite this amendment.
We may need to amend the contribute statement at
https://github.com/hotosm/learnosm/blob/gh-pages/_posts/en/0100-01-01-contribute.md
(which we will then update onto transifex for translation & putting back
onto the main site - this is part of the 'essential setup' file).
Regards
Nick
