btw, your message has not appeared on the mailing list for some  
reason. It is quoted at the end of this message.

I guess I should thank you for being the only OSMF board member to  
respond so far! I think the background to my question might be slight  
different to what you are implying. I am cross posting to the  
legal-general mailing list, which is all about mapping data in the  
public domain. At least some on the mail already support PD and don't  
really need OSMF's validation on merely holding an opinion. So I am  
not asking OSMF about forking per se, and actually the board's opinion  
on that matter is far from obvious from my perspective.

On the issue of hosting, one of the first questions[1] asked on the  
mailing list was about if anyone would host the server. It is also the  
next action on the wiki for this sub project[2]. I am specifically  
asking OSMF if they have any willingness to do it. Since the purpose  
of OSMF is to support the mapping community, I don't see it is an  
unreasonable question.

So, do you have any comments or thoughts that answer my original question?
