I don't see why. A lot of data that is PD is also in widespread use. 
(Aren't we using height contours and coastlines that are PD?)

I think that a very limited number of ideologically-minded people would 
actually be discouraged. Your opinion is as good as mine. You are 
someone who would be discouraged by a project being PD; I am someone 
whose willingness to spend time on something is actually greater with a 
PD effort than with copyleft stuff.

I have protested that notion in the past and will again. Making 
something PD does *not* remove freedom. It is pure demagogy to insist it 
does.
