[OSM-newbies] JOSM error: 412 Precondition Failed

Error 412 means that some Data you tried to rely upon is no longer 
there, or some data you wanted to delete is still in use by other active 
data.

So if you created ways from existing segments, the corresponding 
segments may no longer be in the database, because they have been 
deleted (maybe someone simplified some coastline, or re-did an entire 
intersection of roads, or for whatever reason. Same goes for nodes.

For deletion it's the other way around: you cannot delete a node that's 
still in use by a segment, and you can't delete a segment that's still 
part of a way.

Deleting the affected objects means you should look exactly where it 
fails (JAVA console) and look in JOSM with the search tool for the id
(Search for "id:12341234").
