[OSM-newbies] Josm in Ubuntu

Hi,

I have just switched from Windows to Ubuntu and I need a little help
to get josm working correctly.

What I have done so far:
-Downloaded josm latest.
-Downloaded java 6 "java -version returns:
java version "1.6.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-b105, mixed mode, sharing)

Result:

"java -jar josm-latest.jar"  returns no error, a new windows is open
but it is blank, if I click on the right spot I can click on "Open"
button, and then I get the open file window. So it looks like Josm is
working correctly but I can't see the buttons, menu ...

What have I done wrong?

BTW I am using Ubuntu Feisty, with arabic interface . I tied with US
English interface same result.
