[OSM-newbies] JOSM upload problem

Hello,
I am having a problem uploading data from JOSM. It keeps asking me for my user name and password. 
I can log into JOSM alright and I can download data into JOSM alright but I can't upload anything.
I am using my full email address for the user name in JOSM. 
Since downloading and running JOSM itself I have changed my email address and password for OSM and have put these in the conection fields in JOSM but it dosn't seem to recognise them. 
Suggestions welcome.
