[OSM-newbies] How to join ways and start new ones with the new JOSM?

Since the new JOSM I have a lot of trouble to make 1 one way out of
different 'segments' - ways.  Josm is always separating them and I didn't
figure out how to join them.  That was really easy things to do with the
last version of JOSM.  Do I make sense?

Also When I want to start a way from a node that is already taken by
another way, JOSM always consider it as part of the old way.  It seems as
I can not start a new one?
