It seems that I was looking at the wrong coordinates (see above).
Is that maybe your problem in JOSM as well?
If I load the area that Richard pointed out, JOSM shows your node:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?mlat=-15.250065908940906&mlon=-40.62753414271739&zoom=13
(enter this into the box called "URL from www.openstreetmap.org" in the
download dialog)
So I guess it is just a user error.
Next time, it would be helpful to get the correct latitude and longitude
from you. That speeds up things.
But there is no harm done. Have fun with OSM!
