[OSM-newbies] Potlatch added nodes not connected to anything

I usually first add ways using potlatch, and then JOSM for tags. However,
when entering ways in Potlatch, I often have extreneous nodes along my way.
Any idea how to avoid these? I now have to go back and delete them after
having added ways.
