[OSM-newbies] 412 precondition failed deleting nodes

Hi,

I've been working on mapping my home town, and I've hit an odd
situation.  I was tracing a pond using Potlach, and I wound up
deleting part of the way, so I figured I'd delete the rest and start
over.  I've wound up with a few nodes that I can't delete.  If I
delete them in JOSM, I get "412 precondition failed" when I try to
upload the data.  I don't see any segments or ways there, so I'm not
sure what I'm doing wrong.  Any ideas?  The area is just northeast of
what I've mapped here:
