[OSM-newbies] GPS Tracking & how to add a roundabout

Welcome to OSM - don't worry about asking lots of
questions, we all remember that it was a steep
learning curve at the start!

I would recommend NoniGPSplot -
http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
for logging on windows mobile. There is a version in
English and it's free. It takes a little while to
learn your way around but it's good once you learn it.
You can add points that can be exported in GPX files
so that they show up in the editors. Also check out
BSGPS. I don't know if that will work ok on your
phone. Wouldn't work on my PDA 3 months ago.

You see Garmin mentioned a lot because they make GPS
units. That's very different from GPS software for
PDAs/phones which you are talking about.

I would avoid using a program from TomTom or Garmin
that has maps, as it may actually "snap" your position
onto the nearest road in their database, which would
pollute OSM with copyrighted data. Also, be aware that
TomTom can sort of grab hold of your GPS, and you may
need to use something like GPS Gate to get other GPS
programs to work.

As for changing junctions to rounadbouts, it's a bit
complicated, and depends which editor you're using.
There are several ways to do it, some quicker than
others. My preferred method is to zoom in, add a node
to each way where it will connect to the roundabout,
then split each way at those nodes, then delete the
central node, then draw the roundabout. Try to
remember to draw it in the direction of traffic flow.

Hope this helps!
