Two suggestions:
1. Tag it as "crossing" instead of "ford", since 'crossing' doesn't imply
it's shallow. Sounds silly to me to add yet another tag. People in your
average retirement home don't go through unknown trails crossing fords, maybe
that's just a cultural thing, though. They could always place their walker
over the gap and slowly crawl over it.
2. Get a wooden plank, place it over the gap, tag it as a bridge.
