[OSM-newbies] How to map a place that allows to cross a waterway=stream

I've crossed fords on horseback, on foot and in four wheel drive 
vehicles. "Shallow" is a very relative term. Horses can cross several 
feet of water, so can people -- if they're determined. For the love of 
all that's good, please don't add another tag unless you really, really 
need to. More tags means more work for everyone.
