[OSM-newbies] performance

Are there general performance issues?
Or is it just me experiencing very slow loading of tiles?

I have tried different url, and they all load very slow - about 10-15 
minutes. And mostly not all tiles are shown.

I am currently uploading horseriding paths to osm, so that the local 
community can view those paths in a browser.
But they might not be patient enough :)

After a while some of the missing thiles is replaced by the "...more OSM 
coming soon".

I can rendering maps and put the bitmaps on the web, but it is statical, 
and users can not zoom and pan.
But it might be the best solution?
