[OSM-newbies] You are out of memory.

I'm trying to load a 4.93GB OSM file and get the following message:

You are out of memory.  Strange things may happen.
Please restart JOSM and load smaller data sets.

Do I need to have 4.93GB available RAM in order to open a OSM file of that
size?
