Its a fairly loose relationship :) In general a lot of the map features do
get rendered, but there may be a time lag between items appearing on the map
features page, and them being added to the render styles.
Also with the map features list growing at the rate it does, and with some
of the map features being very specific, I doubt whether there will come a
time when all the items on the map features page are rendered by the main
Osmarender / Mapnik layers. Instead those tags will be available if anyone
wants to use OSM data to produce more specific renders of their own.
As regards natural=marsh, I had requested a few months ago that both the
Mapnik and osmarender renderers render this tag, but as you point out
currently it is still unrendered. I've used it to tag large areas of
mangrove swamp around Darwin & Cairns (Australia), and had hoped that it
would be rendered sometime soon.[However I do accept that I could ask for
SVN access and do it myself, so its not really a complaint :) ].
