Looks fine with Osmarender, though.  Maybe a Mapnik bug?

Tiles at Home can be very useful for this.  Of course, just because it
looks fine with t at h doesn't mean there won't be any glitches on the
final Mapnik result (as illustrated by your example), but at least it
can make you feel better about it.  :)
