[OSM-newbies] Road Ref no. Convention for France

I have returned from France with 12 days of mapping tracks and photos and
have just started adding to the map.

 

Can someone advise on the appropriate ref. number convention for roads in
France.  

 

On the map there is currently a mix of letter followed immediately by
number, e.g. D781, 

and the alternative of gap between, e.g. D 781.

 

I would like to start by using the most supported convention.
