[OSM-newbies] why does one item render in mapnik and another not?

these two ways have all the same properties, they both render in
osmarenderer, yet only one of them renders in mapnik:

renders http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/29544162
does not render http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/29468550


the same applies to these two ways:
renders http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/29468082
does not render http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/29214654


any ideas?
