Thanks for your prompt response.

I do not yet know how to add a permalink, but I shall investigate now.  I believe you are correct about Potlatch adding foot = yes.  Certainly, Potlatch was the editor in the local cases.  I should add that I first noticed the error in the route when experimenting with my Garmin Legend HCx and the OSM routable data I had downloaded as a .img file from http://emexes.powweb.com/osm/download.html.
