[OSM-newbies] Difficulty in "view"ing tiles

Hi all

 

I've posed this question in a couple of places now - to no avail so far - I
hope that someone can help me.

 

Until about 6 weeks or so ago, I could use the view tab and see maps.  Now I
can't.  I have tried IE and Firefox, used the different rendering thingies
(Mapnik, Osmarender etc), I have pinged the tile sites
a.tile.openstreetmap.org b.tile.openstreetmap.org c.tile.openstreetmap.org
and got the message back "timed out".  I have also contacted my ISP as to
whether my account is "shaped"(???) and emailed local OSMers.  I have been
using Potlatch to edit and I am in the process of loading JOSM and Merkaator
to see if I can "view' maps there.

 

Any hints?
