osm.org limits the size of png you can export and download because
that activity is relatively expensive in terms of processor and disk
activity. Allowing arbitrarily large downloads could negatively
effect other osm.org users. You have options depending on what you
want to do.
If you want 2 or three times more pixels than the export limit,
consider repeating two or three times and combining the images with an
image editor like The GIMP. This is relatively simple.
If you want things to appear in a way that differs from the default
rendering, you can download and install all of the tools that allow
you to render your own. This is more complicated.
If you can describe exactly what you want, you may find that somebody
already has the tools installed to make the image and willing to send
it to you.
And I may be forgetting some other options as well.
