Welcome to OSM. Depending on what you're trying to do with the data, you
can either download a map extract for each state from one of the extract
sites like CloudMade, or you can search the map for a specific road.
There are several utilities that can re-parse the .osm XML format into .gml
XML format. FWtools came up on a quick Google search.
Please remember that the map is community effort WIKI, and that the data may
or may not always be up to date. If you have any questions, this is
definitively the list for them ;)
