There's no need to retract it. It offers some good ideas, like the 
rendering suggestion. Which is about what I had in mind as well. What is 
harder in mapnik, without explicit tagging, is determining when exactly 
a road is under a building, and making a clean transition from normal 
rendering to 'sheltered' rendering.
