And at least in urban settings, this would make the most sense, since
few routes are closed to cyclists and those that are serve only to
clutter the map.

Sure you do:  Yes, they are.  Natural landmarks are almost always of
interest.  Though I'm not sure I'd want to bicycle one, even if a winter
road runs down the middle of it seasonally.
