Another option for using OSM maps offline is to download the maps in
Garmin format, then use them in software like Garmin Mapsource or
QLandKarte GT.
Its not exactly rendering, more just viewing vector data. So the maps
won't look the same as they do on the OSM website. Though you can
customise this a bit with TYP files and style files etc.
Also, it means you can do routing and searching etc.
