Or perhaps not, and then there are funny looking maps with e.g. the 
center well mapped, but missing forests around the town.

I'd rather go for mapping the most important objects in the city, as you 
(the original poster) earlier suggested: museums, ATM's etc. The lone 
outdoor pingpong table or Joe's Garage can be added later.
