In JOSM, Shift-D lets you add a node at a specified lat/lon.

I, too, would like to see the lat and lon available to edit in the 
properties list window, the tag editor, etc. Some warning should be given 
if you accidentally typo and place the node outside the existing downloaded 
area, or move it "too far" from where it is currently. I'm sure this last 
part will form part of the philosophical objection that some people will be 
along with any minute now :) .
