[OSM-newbies] Aquaculture Tag

I would like some guidance as to how I should map the shrimp ponds in the geographic area I have chosen as my area of interest (Municipio de San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico).  Shrimp ponds are a significant economic activity in this region and occupy as much as 10 to 15% of the total land area of the Municipio.  Even more importantly, their development has had significant impacts on the hydrology of the region, and sparked considerable public controversy over the past decade.  I believe that mapping these ponds in OSM would be a very interesting contribution to the debate.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to tag this type of feature.  I went to the OSM Wiki and found the page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Aquaculture which I think would be perfect for my needs, but it is not clear to me that I should be using it, since it is merely "proposed."  There is no date set a vote.

Thus my plea for guidance.  Should I go ahead and start mapping these areas or wait until the tagging issue is resolved?  If I go ahead, should I use the aquaculture tag, or should I use something else?
