Re Navigon:

I've worked in automotive electronics, and it's very difficult to get things
right in that world unless you have a lot of experience with it.  I don't
know if that's the case with Navigon vs Garmin, but that would be my first
guess.

I've been curious about doing something similar with the in-dash nav on
my mother's Kia.  Based on experience with other GPS devices, I'm
guessing (but can't prove) that it's a Navigon of some sort.  Wonder why
more carmakers didn't go with something garmin-based...
