I love my Garmin Geko 201. It's quite old now, but might still be available.
It uses 2 AAA batteries and needs a serial connector (Google Pfranc for cheap
cables, and use a USB->RS232 adapter).
I use Eneloop rechargeables and they last for a couple of days if the unit is
left on. It's small, accuracy is great for OSM, and logging capacity is
plenty.
Oh, and it's waterproof and it floats.
