[OSM-newbies] use of colon in tags

Many thanks for the comments. I've also posted on talk-gb as suggested.

It would seem the "condition=" would be the best tag. If and when I come up with a list I will add to the wiki pages on dry_stone and stile.

Using animals to remember the criteria isn't actually a bad idea. Much easier than remembering the text and the associated letter. I've found one scheme with A,B&C an another with A-F.

I take the point about then use of tags. I probably only use about two dozen and without the JOSM presets I would probably use even less.

I can see the arguments for OSM been general in terms of what is mapped but I've no idea what the project will look like in tens years and what people may be mapping then. That is arguably one of the great things about the project. With luck I hope to have mapped most field boundaries in Derbyshire by then. Perhaps sooner if others get involved. High resolution Bing imagery is also slowing creeping into our area, which is making it must easier to map.

If there are arguments not to tag such specific information in OSM are there any applications to overlay such specific information on to OSM base maps. I guess you would need to set up your own OSM server to do this or are their "simpler" applications to do this?

Best Regards

Dudley
