Hi Jon,
I meant reply to a list, rather than to one of us personally, which is what
you did, which is fine!

I am surprised you do not have a time limit for the project...I think I had
to complete mine in less than 3 months...

If you have not used OSM before, I would suggest that you start by spending
a few hours working with the basics of how the data is structured and
editing the map.   It would be worth having a look the wiki pages about
development of OSM components (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Develop).
  That may help you get some ideas of the sort of thing you would like to
work on.    I am afraid I do not know what you mean by telematic so do not
know what to suggest.
