[OSM-newbies] Speed Limits

Personally I would not worry too much about tagging the actual sign. Reading the wiki I believe it means tag the sign if you want to, in my experience they are rarely tagged.

The most important thing is to tag the way (road) with the limit.

After having read the above it seems to me I should:
Mark speed limits on the road
and mark speed sign locations, however in my mind a speed sign has a direction and nothing is mentioned of direction in the wiki page regarding direction. Is it possible to incorporate direction in the tag?
