[Osmf-talk] seeking funding ideas

Dear all,
When looking for "funding ideas",
I think one (we) firsttly ouhgt to think about what the one who gives
the money or the material
would like to recieve in return.
Because, nobody would throw away money, it is too hard to earn.
Reasons to give support to us may be of so many varieties,
so we can not presume anything in the place of donors or sponsors.
If somebody give us free support for free, "just so",
it is up to us, to explain what we do,
and to ask the donor specification
i) in which sense he wants his money or service or material to be
engaged,
and,
ii) by what, or in what way he wants to be recompensed,
to what he wants his name to be assimilated, in OSM / OSMF actions.
Imagine :
Someone gives money to help us,
and for some reason this money went to more correctly place
supermarkets and gasoline stations POI,
to gpx' tha last Ainu (in itself a "nice" action...) for to sell them
frigidaires,
or to trace the last freely-living people on earth ("nice" action,
too), for to sell them satelite tv or have them dance for money,
whereas the person who gave us those means,
would have liked to be associated with actions which make "better"
impact...
Person which perhaps espairs do help "participative" action...
We got responsabilities,
many, on several sides, under several aspects !
If me commit such "errors" on our side, by our own work for OSM,
"only" our own personal conscience is concerned by what becomes of our
data and for what it will be used.
We live with that risk... we take it, anyone amongst us (eleswhise, we
quietly would stay at home...).
But when we get means from "outside",
we *must* ask, in what way the donor wants to be implied,
in what moral, in which deontological direction, he wants to be engaged.
This is *his* choice,
not ours.
So tell him, and ask him, and hear what he (or she, or it) says.
*Then* only decide.
Then only we can decide, if, what, and how we'll do with that.
(One even could imagine cases,
where OSM / OSMF would refuse to receive money or means,
when the donor were in a "morally" non clear situation,
as might be dictatorships, mercenaires,or terrorist' organizations,
or just squale merchants.
We would not like to "receive help" from such. At least, I hope so (?).
All the World has free access to our data,
in no way we can control what will be done with that data,
"good" or "bad", or inbetween.
So, I think,
those who give us means to have the thing (OSM/OSMF) running, ALL,
*must* be know publicly,
and we *must* ask them "what for". Cards on table, openly.
Hmm, "even those inside"...
Just my two nickels.
Sincerely yours,
Signed "trop long",
my french surname which means "too long".
---
For to be "real-name" :
I am Gerhard Ditsch, born 1952 in Germany
live in France since about thirty years.
Postal adress Pégairolles de l'Escalette.
In not am "anonymous".
S'cuse mey, since end of late june I not did active gps mapping,
it's due to the fact, that my "bully" (VW Westfalia 180 hp = my work
site lodge) had been stolen, my trailor too, my house broken,
nearly all material, computers, gps', hard disks, data, and clothing
gone.
Hihi, people had courious looks at me, in the supermarket, nearly
naked just a blanket around the hips, bare-footed,
buying clothes, shoes, food... (got a banc-card left...),
they called the cops, arrested me... got a cold on their concrete
slab, two days and nights naked, no food.
Well, the Ministry, my client, got me out of there,
but since, I live mountainside, "ai pris le maquis" as they say here.
If somebody, friend, wants to come and meet,
please mail before,
I'll come and get.
I never know where I'll be, its the work which decides, not me.
I may be on the antlantic coast, on the mediterranean coast, in corsica,
in the Pyrreneans, in the Alps, or in eastern Austria, so tell before.
You're welcome, friends).
.
So, well,
I hope to find the time and money to see you at Girona.
Internet is fine,
but face-to face is much nicer.
But, as I live outside,
and "meteorologics" always fail,
one never knows.
Late weeks, they every day said "fine weather next seven days, 7° to
14° C, sunny,
but I got -14° and strong breeze,
and in this moment, for their "fine sunny",
I got thunderstorm, heavy rain, dark green lighting somewhat
submarine, really wet, thunder and really beautiful lightnings
"upstairs",
"Saint-Peter pushes around his chairs", they say here.
So I not am sure to be at Girona's,
that'l be last moment's decision.
Hm, now it's becoming dark night here, in afternoon,
I'l hang up to protect 'poters.
See you !
