[Osmf-talk] Elections: Avoid Mandate Creep

I guess for me the real question is whether there are currently
problems with OSM that can only be solved within the context of a
vision -- either because there are several options depending on the big
picture or because the solution needs to be implemented as part of a
long term strategy.

I've only been a member for a few months, but one of the things I like about OSM
is that it's very easy to participate. I think we should make sure that it stays
that way. While it would be nice to have consistent conventions for street names
and the way certain things are tagged for example, it would be incredibly
frustrating for newbies to have to work through pages of guidelines or face the
risk of being told off or even being banned for doing something the wrong way.

In general I agree with the people who say that the board should purely play a
supporting role. I don't see this as being in conflict with the visions of the
board members though -- if, for example, the vision is to improve the general
quality of the data, OSMF can organise mapping parties or acquire data that can
be imported.
