[Osmf-talk] Reaching out and diversity (Was: Re: AGM and board elections)

This was part of the point I was trying to make earlier in this thread, and its not just a problem for any particular project, its a world wide problem that can have fatal consequences. Example: During the Korean War during the battle of Imjin River one of the British commanders requested to withdraw because the situation was "a bit sticky". Being British myself I know that "a bit sticky" is likely to actually mean "its bad or extremely bad", however the American commanding officer of the region did not send reinforcements on the basis that they could handle "a bit sticky". However as it turns out "a bit sticky" was something in the region of 27,000 troops attacking 1,000 odd (I cant remember the actual numbers, it was the Gloucestershire Regiment that its attributed to, but I think there were others involved.... it did not end well, although to be fair very few wars end well for everyone). There is some more here, if your interested http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2001/apr/14/johnezard

So I think as we are all adult enough to have joined the OSMF and we want to try and help the world get on via OSM, we should assume that there is no ill intent, unfortunately all the time humans are involved with communications errors and misinterpretations will be made.

I believe the only way out of this trap is to work on the assumption
that all participants in this discussion are acting in good faith,
and if we perceive anything as "toxic" or "insulting", it might very
well be a misinterpretation on our own.
