A big part of the error has to do with the current satellite position, which takes longer than the duration of a typical drone flight to change significantly. A drone returning to its takeoff location shows that its measurement is stable, not that it is accurate. In good conditions like this (open space), even cheap mobile phones manage to get a stable measurement too. The recomandation when you need a high-accuracy position is to take a few measurements a few hours appart.
That's not to say that being in the air doesn't help, but it's not the only factor of a good 'return home' performance.
