I'd rather the USD 500 be spent elsewhere. Micro grants, for example.
Seriously though, these board meeting are nothing special. The fun happens
in the working groups, local groups and so on.
For now anyone willing to engage should contact the relevant group and ask
how best. For board I think questions in advance will go a long way. For my
old group (SotM) we have plenty that can be contributed in whatever time
zone. For exceptional meetings, allowances can be made (e.g. I stayed up to
the early hours - London time - to have a one off chat with the team in
Australia).
