I did not work with the LoRa technology yet, but as far as I know from 
reading the speed is from 0.3 kbps to 50 kbps [1]. What is interesting 
however is the range. Since the relatively low frequency is used 868 MHz 
(Europe) and 915 MHz (North America), the range is up to 10 km [2]. In 
comparison the WiFi is employing the frequency 2400 MHz (2.4 GHz) or 
5800 MHz.

Low frequency makes higher ranger and lower speed due to the laws of 
physics. I remember I had in 90s an internet connection via dial-up 
modem of 56 kbps. The LoRa equipment is readily available [3]. Come to 
think of it, probably, I shall try to do a test project with it. It 
could be interesting being able to exchange text messages up to 10 km.
