these are 2 very different things, I don’t believe the footprint is protected by copyright, but for photographs I am sure they are, and I would agree the situation is similar to photographing a sculpture (there’s art in making the photo, deciding light and position etc., but without the sculpture the photo wouldn’t be possible at all). Please note, this is about copyright, you can take pictures for private use, but you can’t make a book of it and sell it (without having the necessary rights).


@Oleksey: just like with other copyright, it is extended beyond the death of the author for currently at least 70 years (and is semi-automatically extended every time Mickey Mouse would become public domain).
