[Osmf-talk] Proposal - OSMF Should Adopt a Code of Conduct

It's not (or shouldn't) be a question of whether we adopt a Code of
Conduct. It's about how (possible/inevitable) issues when they arise.
A code of conduct helps a bit on a general level, but they are best when
are not just documents of what is acceptable. They should go along with a
process of how to deal with issues, so you know what to do before something
big comes up (somee of us could argue serious issues have already happened).

Clifford suggested a team to handle CoC complaints.
I like that, although for State of the Map(SotM) we refer to "CoC concerns"
that get raised. One person's waste of database space is another person's
treasured node/tags. In the same way, someone might find something hurtful
or just unwelcoming without other people realising. We have many different
cultures in the OpenStreetMap project, some cultures due to geography
others due to personal background or what we get involved in at the project
(coding, mapping, academia, etc) and when we mix it should be a wonderful
thing.

If I can manage the time, I'd be happy to help a team looking into this and
to provide my insights from SotM. It's a tricky subject to manage and I'm
appreciative of everyone who helps be welcoming and who helps improve
communication within our community. People and emotions are far more
complex than understanding map projections and trigonometry.

All the best,
Gregory.
