[Osmf-talk] My video conference, Ask Me (almost) Anything, Get to know your candidate ("office hours")

NIce idea, Rory.  If anybody has questions for me, it's probably easiest
just to e-mail them to me in your choice of English, Russian, or German
(or French; my daughter speaks fluent French and can help me with
that).  If anybody really has the urge to talk to me, hear my voice, my
Skype address is amustard, just give me a call.  I am also
@allan_mustard on Twitter if anyone prefers that.  If you have access to
cheap telephony, you may call +1 (309) 277-8127.  Please remember that I
am on Eastern Standard Time and so please do not call me in the middle
of the night my time.

Christoph commented that he was not able to discern where I stand on
conflict of interest based on my laconic assertion that I have none
since I am retired.  I should have pointed out that each year for the
past 37 years I have by U.S. law been required to take mandatory
training on ethics, including study of conflict of interest laws and the
need to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest, which
addresses the need to recuse oneself from decisions that involve
potential benefit to oneself or a member of one's family.  I am in fact
quite sensitive to this thanks to both years of training and my own
observation of the fate of people who ignore conflict of interest rules
(e.g., the current noise about Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. Vice
President Joe Biden).  I do perceive the potential for conflict of
interest on the part of board members employed by GIS or cartographic
firms, and would be alert to that.

All that said, my only current affiliation is with the non-profit
Caspian Policy Center, a boutique think tank in Washington, D.C., that
analyzes the Caucasus and Central Asian regions.  Its only link to
cartography is that it recently bought a large wall map of the region,
which hangs in the foyer of its office.

cheers,
apm
