Thanks Joost for the Local Chapters update, and the feedback from Martin:
"
*This would be a way to avoid international organizations arriving in one
country and developing OSM activities without contacting the local
community (a problem we don't have that much for now but might have much
more in the future with the growing notoriety...)*"
see comments below;
- The response to this seems to be in the FAQ
<https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Local_Chapters/FAQ>
"The OSMF has in the past allowed groups to operate as national or regional
user groups without an approval process or similar. *This is not expected
to change*,........
- There have been great previous efforts by the OSMF to revive Local
Chapters but these efforts have not probably been a priority, yet the Local
Chapters have one of the back bones for the OpenStreetMap project: the
community (*In my personal opinion*).
- The Board can make Local Chapters one of the priorities.
- Change some of the previous approval process(es), and
- Have this openly clarified to the Community for individuals,
groups, local, International and thematic Organisations using the OSM
Platform and/or data.
